To update SCOR4 to the release of May 29, 2002, version 4.01: Go to to see download list. SCOR4 must already be installed on your system. Move to your \SCOR4 directory. ********* See the end of this text regarding the SCORLAP program. ********** FTP the seven packed .EXE files. They are: J4.EXE, SC4.EXE, SCLAS.EXE, PG4.EXE, DR4.EXE, MENUHLP.EXE, MENULIB.EXE. Type J4 to unpack JUST4.EXE. Type SC4 to unpack SCOR4.EXE. Type SCLAS to unpack SCORLAS4.EXE. Type PG4 to unpack PAGE4.EXE. Type DR4 to unpack DRAW4.EXE. Move to the \SCOR4\HLP directory and type \SCOR4\MENUHLP . Move to the \SCOR4\LIB directory and type \SCOR4\MENULIB . Then move back to the \SCOR4 directory and delete the six packed files which you had downloaded. If any of the programs do not seem to run correctly, reinstall SCOR4 from your original disk. Try the download procedure again later. The September, 2001 release has improved the handling of grace notes with the LJ command. Also the capabilities of the beam splitting feature have been expanded. (However, see the Code 6 on-line help re. splitting beams with P8, where stems go both up and down.) Some features added to SCOR4 after the documentation was printed: A few new features: Code 4 - Lines It is now possible to create vertical lines by setting P7 to -5. If P6 is set to 0, such lines will be considered by the justifying process. By using P11 and P12 these lines may become vertical brackets or arrows which, when placed between notes, will receive a proper space allocation. Code 5 - Slurs and Ties New centering commands for slurs that extend to previous or following line of music. CNL = centers left end of slur to just before first note in line. (Right end of slur centers on closest note.) CNR = centers right end of slur to just before last bar in line. (Left end of slur centers on closest note.) P19 = fine tune slur thickening. P19 may control the position through the drawing of the first half of the slur where it reaches its maximum thickness. The default is P19 = 0 = .85 = 85%. This feature is rarely needed, but it might be used (in conjunction with P13) for very short ties or nearly vertical slurs. (Use the SHOW feature while editing.) Code 9 - Symbol Library Guitar slash notes with stem down are now available. P5 = 990-996 Combination accidentals: natural/flat, natural/sharp, nat./bb, nat./## P5 = 265-268 Brass instrument fingering icons. P5 = 750-757 Code 10 - Fingering numbers Set P16=1 for a single-digit number to take part in the justifying process. This can also be used with a P15 offset. The main purpose for this is when fingering numbers must be placed to the left side of chord notes. Code 18 - Meter Numbers P13 = change type font by entering font number + 1000. (1004=Helvetica, etc.) Edit mode commands New feature for Left, Right, Up, Down edit commands: LL = moves item left 1/2 horizontal step. RR = moves item right 1/2 horizontal step. UU = moves item up 1/2 scale step. DD = moves item down 1/2 scale step. While editing notes there are now letter commands to move attached marks in any direction. MKD = move mark down 1/2 scale step. (P14) MKU = move mark up. (P14) MKL = move mark left. (P13) MKR = move mark right. (P13) While in edit mode, hitting the left single quote key (`) will, in most cases, immediately repeat the last command given. This is the same as hitting Q, , but it is not necessary to hit the . This may be useful with commands such as MKU explained above. While editing an item, clicking with the RIGHT mouse button on the |Zm/Mv| box will move the item to the staff below (click on Zm) or to the staff above (click on MV). This automatically changes the P2 value. The F10 command for moving the midpoint of slurs has been reinstated. See the 3rd set of menu boxes while editing slurs. This is especially useful moving the horizontal position of tuplet numbers over beams and in brackets For editing beams, there is a new menu box (F10 in the last box group) for flipping the direction of inner unattached beams. "XX" exits from edit mode and copies the item to the !!CUT.TMP file. The item may be retrieved at any later time by means of the paste command (PS). See ?A on-line help regarding letter commands available in Group Alter. There is now a more flexible way of using custom library directories. Read the new PREF-4.HLP file (in the \SCOR4\HLP\ directory) for details on this. There is a new feature for triplet rhythms in INPUT mode: Holding down the key while hitting function keys 2 through 8 will produce triplet values (1.5, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 96). You may also get the triplet values by clicking on the appropriate boxes using the right mouse button. The internal sensitivity for very small time values has been improved in the Lineup routine (and LJ). The part extraction transposition bug (in PAGE4) has been fixed. For reading MACRO command files, use RES (instead of RE). RES will suppress most warning messages that may stop the progress of a MACRO. The following regarding the use of added type fonts replaces parts of the first two paragraphs on page 145 of the SCORE Reference Manual. SCORE allows you to use any downloadable PostScript font . . . . Change to the \SCOR4\LIB directory. There is a special utility program there, FONTCVT4.EXE. Type FONTCVT4 . . . . This progam creates a new file in your \SCOR4\LIB directory with the necessary font metric information. . . . . JUST4 has a number of bug fixes. ***** The SCORLAP program ***** SCORLAP is the same as SCOR4 except that the various parameter numbers at the top of the screen will not continuously change as items are dragged with the mouse. When the mouse button is released, the parameter numbers will be updated to their proper values. This variation was necessary because the display drivers on some new laptop computers seem to have some kind of timing problem with SCORE's manner of updating the graphics output and text changes at the same time. A somewhat similar problem can occur on some desktop PCs that have the newest 3-D graphics boards. In any case, the overall functioning of SCORE is not affected by these problems. SCLAP.EXE should be downloaded to your \SCOR4 directory. Then type SCLAP to unpack SCORLAP.EXE. Then the SCLAP program which you had downloaded should be deleted.
